FAQ

Common questions about kidney treatment in India

Everything patients and families want to know before travelling to India for nephrology care or kidney transplant.

Ask Us Anything
Can a patient on dialysis travel to India for a transplant?
Yes. Many of our transplant patients travel while on regular dialysis. We coordinate with your local dialysis centre and the Indian hospital to ensure uninterrupted dialysis during transit if needed. Our team also arranges dialysis sessions in Delhi-NCR between your arrival and the transplant date.
How long will we need to stay in India for a kidney transplant?
Typically 4–6 weeks total. This includes pre-transplant workup for recipient and donor (1 week), the transplant itself and hospital stay (10–14 days), and mandatory post-operative monitoring near the hospital before flying home (2–3 weeks). For kidney stone procedures the stay is much shorter — usually 7–10 days.
Who can be a kidney donor under Indian law?
Under the Transplantation of Human Organs Act (THOA), a living donor must be a blood relative — spouse, parent, sibling, or child. All transplants require approval from the hospital's authorisation committee. Our team guides both recipient and donor families through the full legal and medical workup process transparently and ethically.
What kidney diagnostics are available in India?
Our partner hospitals offer a full renal diagnostic suite: kidney function tests, 24-hour urine studies, renal ultrasound and Doppler, CT urogram, renal biopsy with electron microscopy and immunofluorescence, HLA cross-matching for transplants, nuclear GFR scans, and cystoscopy — all at a fraction of Western costs.
How is post-transplant follow-up managed after I return home?
We share your complete discharge summary, immunosuppression protocol, and monitoring schedule with you and your local doctor. Our team facilitates monthly video consultations with your transplant nephrologist in India and remains available for any urgent queries around the clock. We also help with routine lab interpretation remotely.
Does Espoir Health charge any consultation fees?
No. Our initial case review, nephrologist opinion, treatment recommendation, and cost estimate are completely free. Espoir Health's coordination fees are incorporated into the hospital package and are fully disclosed in the estimate we share before you travel.
